Don't hit the panic button! This page is here to help!

Getting Started
Here are the basic steps you should follow:

1. Define your problem or question.
(like if you have a research about the french revolution, your questions may be: what led to it?, What happened in it?, What is it's consequences?....etc)

2. Decide what sources of information you can use. (make a list)
(If you have a book about the revolution or you know a site that has information about it, list them and if you don't have try search engines.)

3. Start reading, printing, taking notes.
(read your sources, print what is relevant to your research and take notes and answers to your questions)

4. Organize all the data you have and write your paper or complete your assignment.
(now you have all what you need, just organize your paper for a final image and don't forget to write the references)

5. Evaluate how well you did. What could you do differently next time?
(Now read your research or let your father or friend read it. Evaluate your work and know your mistakes and how to be better next time?)

Now, let's make the steps in detail:

1. Define your problem
What should I look up? Help in focusing your topic.
Make questions about your topic:

EX. A research about USA.
When did people explored America and who did?
What kinds of people live there?
The development and wars happened in USA.
People changed USA history.
USA today (industry, agriculture,...etc)
References.

2. Make a list of your sources
Decide which information tool is best for your project?

You have lots of choices:
books, magazines, newspapers, interviews with people, videos, television, CD-ROMs, or the Internet.

Use the chart below to help you:

You may use your library:

Your school library have many useful books that can help you. Don't hesitate to find them.

3. Read, print, take notes

4. Organize your work and write your paper

5. Evaluate your work.

Use internet resources:
You can use the Internet websites and search engines found in "Useful links" page to get information about your topic.

Warning: Internet is a sword of two edges. So, use it wisely and don't try to just copy and paste others work.
Well, now you have all the information you need. Now look at it and collect what is relevant to your research. If it is a website, print it. Read all your information carefully to know everything about your topic. Take notes as you read because that will help you a lot in organizing your thoughts and writing your paper.
First, decide the way you plan to present your research weather you doing an oral presentation to the class or you doing a PowerPoint presentation or just a research paper.
Second, organize your thoughts, put them into order and don't forget to write the references for your information weather it is a website, a book, or even a person.
Third, Write all what you know about every thought and make an index for your paper. Writing what you learned and the references is a very good idea too.
Now you got your paper, read it again and make sure you know every word in it. You may find some mistakes too, correct them and read again. Reading to or taking the opinion of your father or your friend can be a very good idea. That will help you improve your work. Finally, present your work to your teacher and be sure to know his opinion because that will surely help you improve your work the next time till you reach a perfect research.
